Holiday Season Good Cheer

By October 16, 2014CMF Blog

With the holiday season fast upon us, many are contemplating what will happen with retail sales in the fourth quarter. A recent WSJ article noted the National Retail Federation estimating $616.9B in U.S. holiday retail sales, a 4.1% rise over last year.

Independently, CMF aggregated data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and The Conference Board into a trend chart to show potential reasons for rising retail sales; the trifecta of decreasing oil prices, decreasing unemployment rates, and increasing consumer confidence over the past five to six months should provide consumer good cheer for the 2014 holiday season, and hopefully lead us into a promising 2015.
