“Spring” Training

By February 14, 2014CMF Blog

Pitchers and catchers for Major League Baseball teams are reporting to spring training this week down South and out West, kicking off the unofficial start of the extended baseball season. This got me thinking about the “long view;” the first 45 days of 2014 have not started the way many had hoped, with Mother Nature and economic volatility creating headwinds for actual to budgeted results for January.

However, the start of “spring” training this week is a timely reminder that it is a “long season” and despite the slow start that many have experienced, the teams that come out on top are those that have the fortitude of continued focus managing and optimizing their teams the right way, despite external dynamics. One game lost does not mean a losing season; one month below plan does not mean a losing year!
