“The two most important things in life are good friends and a strong bullpen” – Bob Lemon, MLB pitcher and manager, 1976 Hall-of-Famer.
2018 baseball spring training has officially kicked-off and it got us thinking about the connection of the game to our professional lives.
It was long believed that a phenomenal starting pitcher rotation was a key to winning a World Series. The strategic approach to the game continues to evolve with the bullpen becoming increasingly important for success; bullpen use by playoff teams increased by 25% (measured based upon innings thrown in the past three years’ playoffs, as compared to the ten prior years). As such, investment in and utilization of a specialized bullpen has become an emerging trend among the most successful MLB teams.
Similarly, as private equity investors seek full-time and interim talent to professionalize their portfolio’s operations, prep for a sale, or enhance their FP&A function, it’s essential to have strong, specialized athletes in place to efficiently and effectively throw winning pitches; it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find the right talent to engage with, or even finish the job.
As you progress through the “innings” of your investment, consider the athletes at CBIZ CMF who are focused on the needs of middle market, private equity-backed companies, nationally. Play ball!
